Dr. Behnia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering (Cum Laude) from Boston University as well as a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology from the University of Maryland. He attained his specialty certificate in Endodontics, upon graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Dental School with honors.  Dr. Behnia has published and lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally. He is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental Association.

He is a recent appointee (by the Governor) to the Maryland State Dental Board of Examiner for a four year term.  He is one the nine dentists serving on the Board.

Over the past five years, Dr. Behnia had served as the Treasurer for Maryland State Dental Association and its MSDA Endorsed Subsidiary.  During that period, he also served on numerous committees at the MSDA.

He has also been active serving his specialty professional society, the American Association of the Endodontists.  He currently serves on it AAE's Dental Benefits Committee.

He was recognized as a Top Dentist (Endodontist) by the Washingtonian Magazine in 2009 and he has also been honored Fellowship in the American College of Dentists in 2010.

Prior to opening his private practice, Dr. Behnia was an Assistant Professor and Director of Pre-doctoral Endodontics for four years at the Department of Endodontics at the University of Maryland Dental School.  He is currently a Part-time Clinical Assistant Professor (Dean's faculty) at the Department of Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry at the University of Maryland Dental School.

He is also a member Maryland Professional Volunteer Corps.
